Hans Rossling and the History of the Past Two Hundred Years in Four Minutes!


Gapminder World is a useful database that allows you to research and graph trends in international and national development in areas of economic, social, and health. 

Hans Rossling, is a Swedish statistician who created Gapminder to educate the world on development issues.  Watch these short videos of his that show you how he uses his database of statistics with his unique visual displays to educate the public on important topics.

Watch this tutorial on how to use Gapminder.  Then practice on your own how to use the Gapminder World database to make custom reports on world health issues. 

In class you'll divide into teams and run a practice exercise in which we plot out the change in life expectancy and infant mortality in the UAE and compare it with at least one other country.
